Interior painting is the fastest way to make a house feel new again — and it's the job where shortcuts hide until you live with them. Walls, ceilings, trim, doors, and baseboards, painted with clean cut lines and a smooth, even finish: that's the standard, and we hold it because we spent years on the other side of the transaction. Tim and Josh have hired painting crews for their own house flips for years, walked the finished rooms with a critical eye, and built Level Best to be the crew that passes that walkthrough every time. Josh, a working contractor, runs the crews personally. We patch, sand, caulk, and prime before a drop of color goes on, protect your floors and furniture like they're ours, and leave the room cleaner than we found it. And since Chicago-area winters shut down exterior work from roughly November through April, interior season is when our calendar is most flexible — a fresh interior is the perfect cold-weather project.

Our process, start to finish

It starts with a walkthrough: which rooms, which colors and sheens, and any problem areas — water stains, settling cracks, dented corners — that need repair before paint. Then we protect everything: floors covered, furniture moved and draped, fixtures and hardware masked. Prep comes next, and it's the heart of the job: filling nail holes and dings, sanding rough spots, caulking gaps at the trim, and priming repairs and stains so the topcoat goes on even. Then two coats, with lines cut by hand where wall meets ceiling and trim. We finish with a cleanup, a room reset, and a walkthrough with you — the same walkthrough Tim and Josh used to put their own hired crews through.

We inspect like the customer, because we were the customer

Here's what years of hiring painters for our own flip houses taught us: almost every crew rolls decent walls. The differences show up at the edges — wavy cut lines at the ceiling, caulk gaps at the baseboard, patches that flash through the topcoat, paint specks on the floor registers. Those are the exact spots we check on our own crews' work, every job, because they're the spots we used to find as the paying customer. When the standard is set by someone who's been disappointed before, the punch list gets very short.

What's included

A typical interior project includes furniture moving and protection, floor covering, full surface prep, caulking, priming where needed, and two coats of premium paint on the agreed surfaces — walls, ceilings, trim, doors, and baseboards as specified. We use premium products chosen for each room and sheen, and we're glad to match a brand or color you already love. You get a clear written estimate up front, daily cleanup, a final walkthrough, and a 2-year workmanship warranty behind the finish. If the job needs drywall or plaster repair first, we handle that too — one crew, no handoff.

Winter is interior season in Chicagoland

From November through April, exterior painting is off the table in northern Illinois — but that's exactly when interior work shines. Scheduling is more flexible than the summer rush, the house is closed up anyway, and low-VOC paints keep the air comfortable with the windows shut. A lot of our customers flip the calendar to their advantage: interiors and cabinets in the cold months, then an exterior slot reserved for the summer window before the calendar fills in early spring.

Interior Painting — questions we hear

How long does interior painting take?+

A few rooms usually run a couple of days; a full home interior takes several working days including prep and two coats. Repairs like drywall patches or heavy patching add drying time between steps. Your written estimate includes a realistic timeline, and because Josh runs the crews personally, the schedule we give you is the schedule we keep.

Do I need to move furniture and empty the rooms?+

No — we move furniture to the center and cover it, and we protect floors and fixtures. It helps if you clear small, fragile, or valuable items and wall decor ahead of time, and we'll walk through all of it at the estimate.

Can you paint in winter?+

Winter is our favorite interior season. It's indoor work the weather can't touch, our scheduling is most flexible November through April, and low-VOC products keep the house comfortable with the windows closed. Booking an interior in winter also gets you first in line when the exterior calendar opens in spring.

My walls have cracks and old patches. Do I need someone else first?+

No — that's the advantage of painters who do drywall. We repair the cracks and holes properly, blend the texture, prime, and paint, all in the same project. You get finished walls, not a patchwork with a paint coat over it.
